About This Shoot

These are two of four treehouse I shot in the Fall of 2019, the season got the better of the other two but I managed to catch these locations at just the right time. After scouting a couple of them I decided that any treehouse had to be shot on an overcast day. The reason for this being that all these structures were shrouded by leaves, try shooting in the woods on a bright sunny day and you will soon find your self chasing your tail with the shadows which are cast. This is not something you can work around easily either by masking since the slightest breeze will move the position of the leaves and their shadows, leaving you with as mess of an image. Solution? shoot when there is no sun, or if you are lucky enough a day similar to the second treehouse where the sun peeks in and out of the clouds giving you the chance to capture sunlit frames with strong shadows in a single frame.

These are all ambient images with minor retouches, most are straight out of the camera, with enough foresight and planning some subjects will allow you to bring things together quickly and with minimal editing.
